The Australian Herald Sun reviewed Separation City, excerpt:

A deceptively effective hybrid of rom-com and adult relationship drama, Separation City is easily the most appealing movie to hail from New Zealand in quite some time.

They also gave us a new, albeit, small picture from the movie:

Other Australian paper The Age also gives the movie a good review, though no mentions of Rhona. The Sydney Morning Herald gives it a good review too ("In their bungled attempts at love, Edgerton and Mitra show a lot of heart, as well as a flair for deadpan comedy."). NPR has a review of Stolen up and they weren't impressed with the movie:

Directed by first-timer Anders Anderson, Stolen is a dark saga set on the fringes of society, yet it couldn't have less film noir atmosphere. Everyone is just too pretty, and most of the characters are as sweet and simple as John, a child whose only apparent disability is being, well, childlike.

Little attention is paid to period details like language, clothing or hair: Matthew's boys live in the late 1950s, but have shaggy, early-'70s manes. Indeed, their haircuts are almost the only unruly things in this facile movie. Stolen is a tale of random violence that's as prim as the vision of America peddled 50 years ago by Madison Avenue.

JANUARY 14, 2009  -  STARGATE UNIVERSE AIRDATE

SyFy has announced that the second half of SGU's season will begin on April 2, and will conclude on the 4th of June. Rho is in the final few episodes so her arc will begin in late May. It's a bit later than I expected.

No news on Anya and Re-Uniting the Rubins is still listed as in post-production with a 2010 release date.

JANUARY 14, 2009  -  OLDER INTERVIEW

I found an interview Rho did last year for RotL, from Herald Sun:

‘‘The fanbase is huge,'' the British actor says on the line from her adopted LA home.

‘‘A lot of people seem to be very invested in it and some people feel entire ownership over the characters. We did a Comic Con convention over summer and 6000 people turned up to the Q&A session -- which is more than they've had in any previous years.''

Given such devotion, she must have a certain amount of trepidation taking over from Beckinsale.

‘‘Luckily, it's a prequel so it's in a completely different time and it's a completely different character so . . . at least I'm not trying to fill her shoes,'' she says.

Nevertheless, Mitra is bracing for now-standard unflattering internet chatter.

‘‘I'm sure people will have a lot to say,'' she says. ‘‘People always have negative things to say regardless and that's what I've realised -- it doesn't really matter. There are a lot of people sitting around with not enough going on in their lives and they have to pull apart people's creative efforts. Let 'em go for it!''

Filmed in New Zealand, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans goes back to the beginning of the story to explain how the war between the vampires and the lycans (werewolves) began.

But it's really a story of star-crossed lovers. Mitra plays Sonja, the daughter of the slightly-more-evil-than-your-average-vampire, Viktor (Bill Nighy). Sonja is a death dealer and hunts werewolves on horseback, but she also has a secret affair with a young lycan called Lucian (Michael Sheen), who you may recall was the ‘‘top dog'' werewolf in the first two movies.

Mitra loved the blend of capability and tenderness in her character.

‘‘Part of the appeal is that she's this wonderful warrior, or death dealer, and has all these incredible strengths, but she also has an incredibly tender heart,'' the actor says.

For audiences who only know Michael Sheen from his portrayals of Tony Blair (The Queen) and David Frost (Frost/Nixon) seeing him as buffed up, long-haired anti-hero Lucian will be something of a shock. That's if anyone recognises him in the first place.

‘‘He threw himself into it,'' Mitra says.

‘‘He came off Frost/Nixon and had piled on the pounds for that because he had to embody this much older man. He had to really do a 180 and transform himself. He had to be incredibly physical and he really does look like a completely different human being, which I think is an incredible talent of his.

‘‘To come at it with such tenacity was inspiring for everyone on a day-to-day basis. And Bill Nighy was the same. They both came into it with a great amount of joy and energy.''

Though she's been in a string of movies lately, including Shooter, The Number 23 and Skinwalkers, Mitra rose to prominence on TV shows including The Practice, Nip/Tuck and Boston Legal.

Mitra's last film was the action movie Doomsday, in which she kicked some serious bottom.

But despite doing action movies back-to-back, she denies trying to become an action star.

‘‘I'm not going for anything, but it just seems to come my way,'' she says.

‘‘Doomsday was quite physical and involved non-stop action for me. But while Underworld does have physicality in it -- obviously I have to ride a horse as a death dealing swordswoman -- for the most part it's actually a lot more of a love story.''

Mitra's next film The Truth About Men will be the polar opposite. Also shot in New Zealand, it's a much smaller and more character-driven piece. Mitra plays a cellist opposite Joel Edgerton.

Trying to look credible as a cellist alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra turned out to be much harder than battling werewolves or punk savages.

‘‘It was very intimidating,'' she says.

‘‘Actually it's the most stressful day I've had because you're playing with these people who've dedicated their lives to their instruments and muggins here gets thrown into the mix.

‘‘You have to make your cello look like it's part of you and it was quite a lot of pressure.''

NOVEMBER 20, 2009  -  REVIEW OF STOLEN LIVES

We Are Movie Geeks has a review of Stolen Lives. Since there are a few spoilers I won't post the whole thing here but here is their summary of what works and what doesn't for the film:

Lost in the woods of its own devising, STOLEN LIVES tells two uninteresting stories in particularly uninteresting ways. Anderson’s camera work is satisfactory, and the acting chops provide the only meat on this film’s bones. Unfortunately, there is just far too much working against it. In the end, the film amounts to very little, a forgettable gust of wind that believes itself to be a cyclone. It talks big, but, aside from the acting, it doesn’t live up to its own hype.

And their take on Rhona's performance is brief:

Mitra sits on the sidelines, but she even does that skillfully.

OCTOBER 7, 2009  -  RHONA ON STARGATE UNIVERSE

Rhona has been cast in a recurring role on Stargate Universe which airs on the SyFy channel every Friday at 8 pm. She will be in the last 3 episodes of the season playing a woman named Kiva. Here's her character description:

“a strong-willed commander of an alien incursion force.  Kiva will do whatever it takes to safeguard her people even if it is at the ultimate expense of the Destiny crew.”

Cute piece of trivia? Her character is believed to be a commander in a group known as the Lucian Alliance. Meta. Thanks to GateWorld for the news, and Captain Jack for the heads-up.
